Singing together is a human birthright, a vital technology of belonging.

Healing my own relationship with my voice led me into the heart of a cultural revival of aural tradition singing.

As a teenager, other boys told me I couldn’t sing. “Stick to the drums,” they said.

I shut down my singing voice completely.

Since 2016, when I founded Open Hub Singing, I’ve had the great honor to lead singing with community groups, retreats, corporate teams, students, homeless shelters, keynote events, congregations, families, friends and more.

For me, songleading is a unique musical craft that combines my skills as a facilitator, listener, singer, composer, poet, percussionist and songwriter.

Examples of organizations I’ve lead singing for include - Oregon Alliance, Moda Health, 12-step recovery conventions, Coalition of Oregon School Administrators, Oregon Community Foundation, PDX’s Songwriter Soiree, Singing Alive, the Deschutes Public Library and more.

I love creating customized, unforgettable singing experience for events, groups, retreats and gatherings of all sizes.

  • "If you ever were told that you can’t sing or had a desire to sing openly and without fear come sing with Ian and let your voice be heard! It’s an interactive experience with no judgment and nothing but love and acceptance."

Huh… What does this look like?

Answering the question “What genre is this?” is a challenge. I lead songs as part of a modern, accessible revival of singing together. Most of the material we sing was composed in the last 20 years.
